Welcome to the website for the Order of the Golden Shields. We are an online gaming guild first founded back in 2001, which makes us eight years old this year. We consider this to be quite an accomplishment as most upstart guilds don't last eight months (sometimes not even eight days) much less eight years. For those that wish to know more you can read our history below.
But the MMORPG industry is undergoing some serious changes right now. The popularity of WoW has set a bad precedent for the industry. Every developer out there wants to make the next WoW and investors don't want to invest money in any project that isn't poised to sieze 70% of the market share. Recently several unique games like Dark and Light, Tabula Rasa and Age of Conan were massive failures and dissapointments. New and interesting games still in the concept stage like Crusades MMORPG has been "temporarily if not permanently shelved" according to a former employee of the company making that game. The recent downturn in the economy has only made all of these problems worse. With so many changes in the gaming industry right now its hard for a guild like this one to locate a game with the "sandbox" elements that we need in order to be relevant as a guild. For that reason we are currently between games right now.
Because of all the problems with the MMORPG industry we are currently in the process of retooling our guild to deal with the new "lay of the land" so to speak. We are recruiting new members, updating our guild infrastructure and watching the development of several new games that may suit our needs. Currently membership in our guild is by invitation only.
