Zion's Entry

Entry Pages. Ugh. I still remember the first time Zion started talking about entry pages. What he meant by an "entry page" was a page each member could submit with an article or rant or anything else they wanted. What I thought he meant was an "ENTER page" like one of those index pages with a flash move or a brief description of the site before the reader enters the main page and begins to view the rest of the site.
When Zion called me up to ask for my entry page I asked him what kind of flash movie he wanted on it to which he anwsered with a confused "Wha!?"
The entry page I finally provided was an awful rant on how Ashen Temper had lied about the release date of Shadowbane. Even though I would still like to kick Ashen in the groin for that, I'm glad that awful rant is gone. Zion's entry page on the other hand was fairly good and I'm glad I have preserved it. My favorite part is at the end when he talks about to origin of our guild Motto. Its Ironic that it means allot more to us now than it ever did back then.
Ah, what should I write my entry about? Well, my name is a good choice. Most players choice a name for some reason, and it’s worth an explanation. A name is alot, it represents your values and who you are. For this reason, at least for me, my name had to have meaning.
Let's take my first name first. Zion is my Hebrew name. It means homeland, and usually refers to Israel, being a Hebrew word. It’s kind of an odd name for a person, more suited to a thing, but it’s an alias that I feel comfortable with. It’s more about how it sounds, it sounds cool, and has the personality that I want. I picked it based on that, and it seems mage and RPG like anyway. The fact that it’s one of my real names too is just a plus.
At the end of the Han Dynasty in 3rd century China civil war enveloped the nation. China would not be reunited for over a hundred years. This was one of the most catastrophic civil war in all of history, it affected everyone, and changed the nation forever. The civil war was total and complete, confusion was rampant, and not much made sense. This real-world scene reflects the atmosphere created in SB. Amongst the confusion three leaders emerged, each charismatic and a great battle leader. They formed a nation of three separate empires, and each of them came from low positions to overcome countless war lords. Greatest among these leaders was a man name Cao Cao. He managed to unite the people in a common cause, he was also brave beyond imagination, leading the charge of his million man army in every battle. What was most impressive was that in a time of chaos he managed to build, and create. He made cities, gave people farms, and was successful because he gave people a refuse to go to, and accepted everyone. In SB much of the same thing must be done to be successful. We must unite, which is even more important sense your enemy will come back and fight another day. We also must build, and create. Cao Cao is a model of the leader that I inspire to be, so his name becomes mine.
My Quotes:
I've come up with a few quotes of my own, and I’ve said them here and there. here is a place for me to explain them.
"Unity is impossible without something to be united against."
It's true. Most people think that people are united *for* something, they are wrong, people are only united against things. Think about it. When was America *truly* united? We were united in WWII against the Axis powers, we were united in the Cold War, against the Soviets, we were united against Vietnam. Adolf Hitler didn’t unite Germany *for* world domination, he united them *against* the Jews and the rest of the world. The lesson holds true today. Islam extremists are united against other religions, not for their own. Israel is united against their enemies, not for their common beliefs. For example; about half the Israeli population is poor Russian immigrants, equivalent to the immigrant Mexican population in the US. There is some discrimination against them, if Israel ever had true peace with their neighbors it would be disastrous. Israel would no longer be united against anything, and their unity would die. And ugly conflict would occur against these immigrants and the rest of Israel.
The implications of all of this is truly sad. It means that true and total peace can never happen. For the second that it happens the unity will collapse, no longer united against anything, and conflict will occur again. This explains the human nature of war and conflict.
This has implications in SB too. If ever anyone does manage to unify the world, which is unlikely, the world will instantly reemerge into civil war, no longer united against anything. One thing that I have thought of is that the world could then be united against another world, using the traveling discipline. Not only would a inter-world war be awesome, but it would keep the unity.
"Wars are won before a single drop of blood is shed."
Planning and strategy is everything in war, and essential to victory.
"Unbreakable: For the Time has Come."
I should probably explain the guild quote here: the first word is the most important. It shows our attitude, and an image that we are invincible. Image is everything, and a motto is image. Even if we are not invincible giving an appearance that we are increases our moral and dims the enemy. One word is not a substantial motto though. For the Time has Come allows for whatever the individual person believes about SB. Every fraction in the game wants something to change, what that is is not stated because we accept, and therefore support, everyone. It should have individual meaning, and it has countless meaning, whatever you came in with I’ll leave you with, for that is what it is for.
